“50%of Norway’s energy use is still fossil. Evinys mission is to provide the renewable energy needed to change that.” - Daniel Syslak, Sustainability Manager at Eviny
Because even though they are a part of the climate solution, and built on renewable energy, they are also a part of the problem. Eviny also has emissions, and to reduce them they need to know where they are. They need to measure, not only the data that is easy to collect, but the complete emissions for all scopes. And not just once a year. But fully, completely and continuously, in ways that make action possible.
“We produce and distribute renewable energy, that’s always been our core business. But we also have a carbon footprint to manage. And we realized: if we want to cut emissions effectively,we need to get the data right first.” - Daniel Syslak, Sustainability Manager at Eviny
Five years ago, Evinys carbon accounting was pretty basic. It consisted mostly of manual updates in spreadsheets; a few entries for company cars, fuel use, and travel. Over time, the climate picture expanded. Standards evolved. And with it, so did expectations.
Eviny wanted to go beyond symbolic reporting, and take responsibility for our emissions throughout their value chain. In order to achieve this they needed a full emissions inventory they could trust, one that didn’t depend on internal guesswork, on exhaustive consultant support or required so much time that there wasn’t room for anything else.
“We knew that climate reporting isn’t something we should treat as a differentiator. It’s something we just need to get right in order to reduce our emissions. It’s a basic, but important, hygiene factor.”
But hygiene, as many companies know, is easier said than done. Their Excel-based system worked well for a while, but with increasing complexity it couldn’t keep up. It was always left with too many gaps, blind spots, risk of errors, and too much time was spent just collecting and formatting data. The sustainability manager knew they were spending more effort chasing numbers than acting on them. Their data collection needed to match their ambitions. And that’s when they started looking for something better.
“It’s a relief. We know we’re using the best possible numbers, and we don’t have to spend time explaining back and forth” - Daniel Syslak, Sustainability Manager at Eviny
One of the key criteria for Eviny was ownership. They didn’t want a tool that took the work away from them, they wanted one that helped them keep control.
“We didn’t want a solution that made us dependent on a third-party. We wanted to own our own data, insight, process and strategy. Morescope strengthened both our structure and independence.”
This shift had a ripple effect. People across the company, began contributing and using the data. The system made it easier to collaborate and align, without adding friction.
“It’s not a shiny thing we show off. It’s just how we do things now. It’s become a natural part of our way of working.”
And while the data improved, so did the confidence in what it represented. With verified emissions factors maintained by Morescope, Syslak’s team no longer had to defend their assumptions every time they were audited.
“It’s a relief. We know we’re using the best possible numbers, and we don’t have to spend time explaining back and forth”
Eviny didn’t adopt Morescope to pat themselves on the back. They did it because they needed the right climate data foundation to get their actual climate efforts right. Because for a company aiming to reach net-zero by 2027, every decision counts. And every delay costs.
“We’d rather use our time and resources to actually cut emissions, not chase data.”
What they’ve built with Morescope is not a finished climate strategy. It’s the infrastructure for one. A baseline. A hygiene factor. Something solid and structured, so the real work; investments, scaling, decarbonizing and growth, can move faster.
Eviny’s ambition remains clear: a future that’s renewable, electric, and digital. And by treating data like an incubator, not a finish line, they’ve positioned themselves to lead that future with both responsibility and speed.
